Dubbed a “preferred solution” for Exchange by Microsoft and HP, the E5000 Messaging System is now available to customers. Julia White, Senior Director, Exchange Product Management enumerates some of the advantages that the HP E5000 Messaging System for Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 brings to customers including scalability, streamlined deployment, and low cost but large mailboxes.

Developed jointly by Microsoft and HP, the E5000 is aimed not only at new customers wanting to jump on the Exchange bandwagon, but also at companies looking for the best way to upgrade to Exchange Server 2010 from Exchange 2003 or 2007.

At the same time, White underlines that existing Lotus Notes customers can also consider the E5000 a valid alternative for their migration to Exchange 2010.

“The all-in-one solution ships pre-configured and optimized for Exchange Server 2010 using best practice architecture from both HP and Microsoft. We’ve also included specially developed quick deployment tools preloaded on the E5000,” White revealed.

The promise from Microsoft and HP is that customers will be able to plan and deploy Exchange Server 2010 within just a few hours.

“And in the spirit of keeping costs down, the E5000 offers a few additional benefits. Its 3U form factor saves at least 25% space in the datacenter, and saves up to 50% on power consumption as compared to a similar configuration using multiple hardware components,” she added.

The E5000 comes with Exchange Server 2010 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 pre-installed and configured by default, with HP dealing with both hardware and software support for the offering.

“The E5000 has brought the best of HP and Microsoft together into a single all-in-one solution for email. Our customers will be able to realize the benefits of Exchange Server 2010 with HP hardware specifically designed to make the E5000 easy to deploy and manage with large, low-cost mailboxes and high availability already pre-configured and ready to go,” said Tom Joyce, Vice-President, StorageWorks, HP.

One of the strongest selling points of the E5000, in its makers’ view, is the fact that users will be able to take advantage of 1GB or 2.5GB mailboxes out of the box.
