Will basically be responsible for HP's future performance across all markets

As it was bound to happen at some point or another, HP has made a new management change, or at least a modification to its existing roster.

HP has just announced that it has decided on who will assume the position of chief strategy officer.

For those that are unaware of what the job entails, the CSO has to figure out what direction a company should take and how it will best perform in the markets it targets.

“Every 10 to 15 years, fundamental shifts occur in the IT industry that redefine how technology is delivered,” said Meg Whitman, HP president and chief executive officer.

“From mainframes to client/server to the Internet, companies that identified the opportunity first and developed the right strategy came out on top. As we move forward, HP intends to stay on top, and I believe Bill has the knowledge and vision to keep us there.”

Veghte is not precisely a new addition to the company's staff.

After all, he has been serving with HP since 2010. He has been the HP Software executive vice president ever since.

From now on, the man will work with HP's other senior business and technology leaders, to define the future of the entire company.

In the meantime, he will continue with his previous duties as well.

HP has not exactly been doing badly, but it did put the whole world through a very awkward experience last year.

Not only did it cancel the TouchPad after the tablet had been on the market for just six weeks, but it also announced it was backing out of the PC market, despite being the leader in that field.

Once the previous CEO was replaced by Meg Whitman, the latter decision was overturned, though the webOS division still got mostly sacked.

Now that a new person has taken charge of the company's overall strategy, it remains to be seen how the corporate direction changes, if it does at all.
