HIS announced today the release of its HD 4870 IceQ 4+, which is said to be able to deliver the fastest in-game performance ever provided by a single GPU HIS graphics accelerator. The new HIS card features a Radeon 4870 GPU core that has the frequency leveraged to 770MHz, allowing it to deliver serious high-definition gaming frame rates. The card also features a new memory sub-system.

The 1GB of GDDR5 memory of the HIS HD 4870 IceQ 4+ graphics board is able to top 4000MHz, while the temperature of the card is maintained at low levels through the latest version of the legendary HIS cooling technology, the IceQ 4+. The technology has been developed so as to draw in cooler air across the GPU and memory, while exhausting the hot air out of the chassis and not inside it. The solution is more efficient than traditional cooling systems, which keep the air from the GPU recirculating inside the chassis.

“Even though IceQ is the best known GPU cooling solution in the market, we have continued to develop the technology and we’re especially proud of the latest version,” said Peter Yeung, Global Marketing Director for HIS, while explaining the latest advances of the company.

“With IceQ 4+, we have redesigned the heat distribution mechanism itself. Utilising a brand new 8mm heatpipe design means we have increased the thermal transfer capacity by 60 percent over the previous IceQ 4 design,” said Yeung. “HIS delivers gamers a triple-advantage of faster, cooler and quieter in-game performance”.

The IceQ 4+ provides key advantages as increased ability to transfer thermal energy, offering rapid cooling, the fan pulls in cold air from both sides, while the hot one is expelled out of the case, the airflow system of the IceQ4+ cooler allows additional cards fitted in a CrossFire configuration to remain cool as well, the system offers reduced noise levels along with increased service life of the graphic card. The HIS 4870 IceQ4+ 1GB graphic card also features a UV Reactive Artwork Advantage.

The card comes with CrossFire bridge interconnect, DVI to HDMI dongle (capable of carrying 7.1 audio), DVI to VGA dongle, driver disk and manual. The company announced the immediate availability of the card via Microdirect, Novatech, Scan and YOYOTech at an expected price tag of $229/€179/£169 to which local sales tax is added.
