Just like every other AMD add-in board partner out there, HIS Digital also unveiled a Radeon HD 7950 graphics card of its own, targeting high-resolution gamers and enthusiasts alike.

Compared to most other video card makers, HIS has decided to stick with AMD’s reference design for the HIS 7950 Fan 3GB GDDR5, which means that its creation uses a centrally placed fan to blow fresh air on the heatsink and PCB found underneath.

The card’s operating clocks were also left unchanged, so the GPU is run at the stock 800MHz, while the frequency of the GDDR5 memory is set at 1,250MHz (5GHz data rate).

The rest of the specifications are fairly standard for an AMD Radeon HD 7950 graphics card, HIS’ creation sporting the usual dual miniDP, HDMI and DVI-D video outputs.

Pricing has been established at $469.99 (about 359 EUR), the card being available from several retailers, including Newegg, who offers it together with a Dirt 3 free game coupon.

AMD’s Radeon HD 7950 is based on the same Graphics Core Next (GCN) architecture and Tahiti GPU, like that used for the HD 7970, but this comes with one of the core’s Compute Units arrays disabled to turn it into the Tahiti Pro.

The result is a graphics card that includes a total of 1792 stream processors (vs. 2048 in the HD 7970), 112 texture units, 32 ROP units and the same 384-bit wide bus of its elder brother.

The amount of memory installed wasn’t modified either, so we are talking about the same 3GB of GDDR5 video buffer that has an operating speed of 1.25GHz (5GHz data rate), while the Tahiti Pro GPU is clocked at 800MHz.

AMD’s MSRP for the Radeon HD 7950 is set at $449.99, but so far Sapphire is the only AIB maker to sell a card at this price.
