Two days after announcing a new update for its maps, HERE released a new version of its Android application, which brings major improvements, new features and a fair share of bug fixes. More importantly, HERE confirmed that with the latest version the application would leave beta.

Among the most important changes included in this update is the improved routing, which has been enhanced over the beta version.

Unlike the previous versions of the application where users had to switch to the appropriate tab when they wanted public transit of pedestrian routes, the final iteration released today provides aster routes from all three transport modes showing up straight away.

“Most of the refinements you’ll find in the new version come from user feedback and testing. We had the time to see where people had issues and think of ways to correct them,” explains Niko van Eeghen, head of product team.

Another improvement included in the latest version of HERE is related to interactivity. The application now offers considerably more details at the tap of a finger.

The update should also address some well-known bugs

Next in line, 3D Venue Maps are basically maps of locations such as shopping malls and airports, which are now available in the Android application. These maps have been made in 3D, so users can spin them around and learn what's on each level of the mall.

Some visual polishing has been implemented as well. According to HERE, its engineers have worked to move the interface out of the way. Collections have been added to the menu too, so users can access them quicker.

Country maps can now be downloaded in the background, with a progress bar that will appear in the notification bar so you know when it's finished.

Last but not least, the new update brings lots of bug fixes, which address issues reported by users or discovered by developers.

You can now download HERE for Android 1.1 for free via Google Play Store. The application should be fully compatible with all devices powered by Android 4.1 and up.
