In the wake of the souring relationship between Hideo Kojima and the team at publisher Konami, the company also announced that it was canceling the new Silent Hills projects and the co-creator of the title, Guillermo del Toro, is not at all happy about that.

Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, the movie director claims that those involved with the project were collaborating well, and the final product would have been interesting for fans of the franchise.

Guillermo del Toro states, "Norman was super happy, Hideo was super happy, and so was I. I know there’s a petition going on the internet and it’s gathering signatures. I would add my signature to it, and hope that someone pays attention."

A demo for Silent Hills, called PT, was launched by Konami in 2014, and the fan community was impressed with the quality.

There was talk that the new title would manage to return the franchise to its roots and create a horror game fit for the new generation of consoles.

The PT demo for Silent Hills has been removed from the PlayStation Store, and there's no way for fans to get access to it at the moment, with some players selling devices that have it already installed.

Konami has said that it has no plans to deliver the game without the creative input of Guillermo del Toro or Hideo Kojima.

The pair is apparently evaluating whether the project could be created under a different name and without any connection to the Silent Hills universe.

The publisher is aiming to shift its focus to mobile devices

An official statement from Hideki Hayakawa, the current chief executive officer, explains that in the coming years the company aims to shift from selling physical video games to intangibles, which involves a big focus on mobile devices.

The big video game-related project at Konami is Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, which is being created by the team led by Hideo Kojima.

The title is set to arrive on September 1 on the Xbox One, the PlayStation 4 and last-gen consoles.

PC gamers will also get it on September 15.

Hideo Kojima has not said what kind of plans he has after the launch of Metal Gear Solid V, when he will presumably be free to create his own development studio and work with any publisher he likes.
