It really seems that the various solutions enabling users to turn their iOS devices (whether we're talking about the iPhone 4, iPad or iPod touch) into universal remote controls have become quite popular these days, and for this reason, the people over at Griffin Technology have decided to launch such a product of their own, namely the Beacon. According to Griffin, the Beacon makes use of Bluetooth and infrared technologies, practically converting the Bluetooth commands issued by the iOS devices into IR commands that AV equipment can “understand”.

The Beacon combines a small, AA battery power accessory with Dijit's Universal Remote App, that grants users access to an intuitive Programming Guide, allowing them to easily change channels, volume, input, program your DVR, and more, by simply tapping on the Apple device's display.

Furthermore, the Dijit app uses a constantly updated device code library for TVs, set-top boxes, sound systems, media players and more, meaning that the Beacon is quite likely to work with most home theater setups out there.

"Beacon allows control over the entire home theater setup, all from a pocket-sized device," said Matt Brown, director of Product Development at Griffin, adding that "together with Dijit, we have created a powerful tool that really simplifies the entertainment experience by providing a customized program guide for all of your content in the home."

“Our partnership with Griffin Technology is making it possible for consumers to easily control their entertainment content from any iOS or smartphone device,” said Maksim Ioffe, founder and CEO of Dijit.

“The Beacon brings flawless fingertip search and discovery of all of your entertainment content all from your smartphone,” Mr. Ioffe continued.

Unfortunately, you'll have to wait a while longer before you are able to get your hands on the Beacon solution from Griffin, since it will only be available in May 2011 for around 80 US dollars.
