After going through a tragic miscarriage when she was just 19 weeks pregnant, Alexis Fretz decided to share her story with the world, and added some photos of her prematurely-born baby for a bigger impact. Despite the fact that many viewers saw the pictures as quite shocking, her intentions were all well-meant.

The Pennsylvania woman was heartbroken by the loss of her son and wanted to publicly talk about the experience on her blog. Alexis' initial goal of letting friends and family know the story turned into a way of helping and comforting other grieving mothers that went through similar experiences and of preparing other women in case tragic events, like her miscarriage, ever occur to them.

The 30-year-old woman was carrying her third child when she began to experience bleeding and decided to go for a check-up at the hospital. What she believed to be just a minor complication turned into a tragic miscarriage by the end of the day.

Being confident her pregnancy was taking its normal course, Fretz began her day with a friend, whose wedding she was supposed to attend the next day. When she noticed the bleeding, she went to the hospital and patiently waited for her consult. While she was expecting her doctor, Alexis began experiencing pain, and just minutes afterwards, the 19-week pregnant woman was in labor.

At the sight of her premature baby boy, “I was crying so hard at this point but he was perfect. He was fully formed and everything was there, I could see his heart beating in his tiny chest,” Fretz wrote on her blog. Even if at the beginning she did not want any photos, the grieving mother changed her mind and decided to have at least some memories of him.

Like many other people trying to avoid the pain of telling the story to friends and family over and over again, each time going through the same agony of remembering the traumatic experience, Alexis wrote the story on her blog and added photos of her perfect son.

In order to justify her actions, she wrote that the purpose of the article, and of the photos, was not to “gather Facebook like or comments” but to show her friends and family her perfect child. The emotional story turned viral and people from all over the world started sending her messages of encouragement and support.
