There will be few cross-discipline contracts for players to fulfill

The campaign in Grid Autosport will have a more relaxed attitude to players and their choice of events, as it won't force them to win all races across all of the five different disciplines in order to complete goals and progress further.

Codemasters revealed Grid Autosport last month and surprised quite a lot of people with the fact that it was releasing another Grid game almost a year after Grid 2.

The studio quickly confirmed that it was reacting to user feedback, as many fans didn't feel that Grid 2 delivered a proper sequel experience to the iconic Grid 1.

The developer quickly implemented a brand new handling system and started focusing more precisely on the racing experience, even in the single-player campaign that will now give players a higher degree of freedom when it comes to choosing what events or disciplines they want to partake in.

More specifically, Grid Autosport has five event classes, in the form of Touring, Endurance, Open Wheel, Street, and Tuner. However, players aren't forced to go for the top spot in all races across all disciplines, as they'll have a progression in each one.

During a class, players are served with contracts from teams that have specific objectives in that discipline alone.

"The contract you accept is for a season and will come with team objectives that last the whole season, such as finishing in a particular position in the driver standings, or finishing ahead of a rival team. You’ll race with a team mate, who you can make requests to in order to help fulfil team goals," Codemasters told VG247.

"For example, you might want to ask your team mate to push hard for the last couple of minutes of an endurance race if your race engineer was telling you that you needed more points for your target. Earning experience in each discipline unlocks further championships to compete in. Completing team targets will provide you with more prestigious team offers."

However, there will be contracts from different, more ambitious companies that will task players with competing across disciplines or racing styles, but these are few and represent the end-game content for the campaign overall.

Regular players can just engage in the events they like and then go online and complete races against others or events organized via Codemasters' RaceNet online system.

Grid Autosport launches on June 25 in North America and June 27 in Europe for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
