12-year-old YouTube sensation arrives on Twitter

Over the weekend, word got out that 12-year-old Internet sensation Greyson Michael Chance had already landed a deal with a record label, as Interscope had jumped at the chance of signing him before anyone else would. While that is still to be confirmed, it’s now official that Greyson is working on new music, as he announces on his Twitter page.

The 6th-grader became an international star after a video he posted on his YouTube channel, in which he played the piano and sang Lady Gaga’s “Paparazzi,” was picked up by several media outlets and then went viral, generating over 10 million views in just a matter of hours. The next day, Greyson was a guest on Ellen Degeneres, where he also spoke about his relationship with girls, how he’d already written two songs and where he got Gaga on the phone to personally congratulate him.

His meteoric rise to fame (as cliché as that may sound) has also generated comparisons to another teen sensation, the (comparatively) much older Justin Bieber, whom People magazine called in a recent piece today’s equivalent to The Beatles in terms of the reactions it can prompt in his millions of female fans. As far as he’s concerned, Greyson, who is now working on something new, says he’s not out to overturn The Biebs, even if that’s what many people are saying since he seems to be naturally more talented.

“My first tweet! Thanks for all the support, follow me here so I can keep you updated on everything!” the wonderboy first tweeted. “I am writing some new music! Hope it turns out into something… :)” he added a while later. As for comparisons to The Biebs, Greyson says he’s honored by them, but without the negativity attached to them. “I’m hearing the rumors… Not true… I think Justin Bieber is a great artist… And hope that he takes me on tour one day…” he wrote just a few hours ago.

While he does set the record straight on the rumors concerning Bieber, Greyson says nothing about the so-called record deal he recently signed, though it would come as a wonderful surprise to his already 31,000+ followers. On the other hand, assuming the report was accurate, chances are it will be Interscope who will make the official announcement, given the singer’s age.
