If Edward Snowden released all the information he had on the NSA, he could do more damage to the US government in a minute than anyone else in history, but he won’t.

At least that’s what Glenn Greenwald says, regarding the NSA whistleblower, RT reports.

“That’s not his goal. His objective is to expose software that people around the world use without knowing what they are exposing themselves to, without consciously agreeing to surrender their rights to privacy. He has a huge number of documents that would be very harmful to the US government if they were made public,” Greenwald said.

However, the NSA whistleblower doesn’t want to do any of that, as he himself said on Friday. In his view, the information he is giving to the public aims to inform Internet users of the risks they are facing each day when it comes to their privacy.

The information he has on the US government will remain for his eyes only and he will not make it public, although plenty of stories are yet to come on what the NSA had been doing.

The only scenario in which these documents would reach the media and be published is if anything ever happens to him.

As it was previously stated, Snowden has already set in place a system to make sure nothing happens to him, namely he sent out encrypted documents to several people and if any harm comes to him, decryption keys will automatically be sent out.

In such a case, the secrets the United States are fighting so hard to keep out of the media would be published and the damage done is immensurable.

As Greenwald puts it, if anything happens, the information will be revealed and that would be America’s worst nightmare.

It has been previously thought that perhaps this was the reason behind the position the United States have regarding Snowden and their restless hunt for him, namely the kind of information Snowden holds on them and they're afraid would get in the media.

In an effort to get to Snowden, they put a strain on the US’ relationship with Latin American countries by grounding the Bolivian presidential airplane and interfering with the right to gain asylum.
