Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has announced that it is working with DC Comic to launch its first video game for the new Nintendo 3DS handheld, called Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters, set to arrive on June 10.

The game will also be released in a 2D version on the PlayStation 3 from Sony, the Xbox 360 from Microsoft, the Nintendo Wii and the normal DS handheld, all on the same date.

The publisher says that the events in the game will be inspired by those seen in the upcoming Green Lantern movie, which is also scheduled for release towards the middle of June.

In the video game, players will be able to control Hal Jordan, the first human to become a member of the Green Lantern Corps, in intergalactic organization that welcomes representatives of all races as long as they are ready to fight for order and justice.

Using the Green Power Ring gamers will have to create constructs and other powers in order to fight enemies across the universe in an effort to take down the Manhunters, a series of robots that were created to also uphold order in the universe but have since gone rogue.

It's not clear whether Ryan Reynolds, the actor who will play Hal Jordan in the movie, will also lend his voice and likeness for the video game.

On the Nintendo 3DS, Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters is specifically designed to use the no-glasses three-dimensional gaming tech of the handheld, with multi-plane graphics used to pull the gamer deeper into the experience.

The Nintendo 3DS has been launched in Japan and will arrive in North America and in Europe this weekend.

The device has already seen some impressive sales and Nintendo is counting on games from within the company, like Mario and Zelda, and from outside, like Resident Evil and PES 2011, to draw gamers to the system.
