Exportable to other games

Following the success of The Beatles Rock Band, which managed to sell better than expected and get better reviews that Guitar Hero 5, a lot of people have begun to speculate on what Harmonix and MTV Games will be creating next for the long running franchise, especially considering that analysts are expecting the music game market segment to shrink in the coming year.

Quite a lot of fans of the series seem to have been surprised by the announcement, made at the Spike Video Game Awards, that the two companies are now working on Green Day Rock Band, set to be released for all home game consoles at some point in the fall of 2010.

Harmonix is saying that the new game will include “Green Day's most-defining albums and key moments throughout their career to date” and that it is working to make sure that the soundtrack can be exported and then played in other versions of Rock Band titles, a feature not included in The Beatles game.

Band member Billie Joe Armstrong stated after the announcement that “We've worked with the Rock Band team in the past year to enable our fans to play tracks from 21st Century Breakdown, and we're excited to now be working on a game, spanning our entire career. We want people to fire this up, choose their favorite Green Day tracks, and play along with us as Rock Band avatars so they can feel what it's like to perform on stage as Green Day.”

Considering that rumors were talking about the possibility of Led Zeppelin Rock Band or even a Queen title, the announcement of a Green Day game seems pretty underwhelming but if Harmonix and MTV Games manage to offer the same quality as in their latest games, then fans of punk rock will certainly pick up the title.
