Dance oriented

Paramount Digital Entertainment and 505 Games have entered into a partnership aimed at creating a series of games based on the well-known musical Grease. The titles will be launched for the Nintendo Wii and the Nintendo DS and are set to arrive sometime in 2010.

Grease was well-known for launching the career of John Travolta and for its musical numbers, which blended catchy pop with rather complex dance moves.

It would be interesting to see whether the game will be using the Balance Board to make players demonstrate their footwork but, for now, the developers are only talking about delivering the Grease experience via the unique control mechanism of the Wii and the DS. Let's hope that 505 Games also manages to introduce a full simulation of Travolta's chin in Grease.

Adam Kline, the president of 505 Games, stated that “The ‘Grease’ movie is a timeless pop culture icon, and 505 Games is eager to bring the first interactive experience based on the film to fans around the world,” while John Kavanagh, who is in charge of video game development at Paramount, said that “Grease is the ideal opportunity to reach a broad gaming audience who love to sing, dance and have fun with a party-style game.”

505 Games seems to be pretty interested in bringing well-known family-oriented properties to a more casual audience. It has published titles that focus on singing and dancing like Wii Cheer and has also worked with movie-based properties like Hotel for Dogs.

It is also working on a game developed alongside Michael Phelps, the well-known swimmer and 14-time Gold medalist. It's not clear whether it's a swimming game, but we will find out in 2010. 505 Games has also entered into an agreement aimed at publishing titles based on the various Fashion Week events.
