Players won't be able to control all the three characters from the get-go, however

Rockstar Games has talked about the pace of its upcoming Grand Theft Auto 5 game, confirming that the story will progress in a faster way and will include plenty of impressive sequences designed to surprise players.

GTA games have delivered some great experiences over the years, but one of their main flaws was that the story took a long time before progressing towards more impressive moments. Before engaging in huge crimes, players were forced to sit through tutorials and first make allies in the world.

Now, Rockstar North President Leslie Benzies has confirmed to Jeuxactu, via OXM, that the pace of GTA 5 is a faster one, meaning it won't take long before players will engage in big missions.

"We want to surprise people with very intense missions from the start. The pace of the game is much faster than any of its predecessors," she said.

"From the beginning, we want to show off the new game mechanics while creating intense, action-packed gameplay, to capture the player's attention immediately."

This faster pace is owed largely to the fact that the three main characters, Michael, Franklin, and Trevor, are already living in the city of Los Santos, meaning they have friends, allies, and connections, unlike other GTA protagonists.

"Remember that the three characters in the game are already living in the city of Los Santos and surrounding areas," Benzies added. "They are not newcomers like Niko and Tommy Vercetti, or people returning after a long absence like CJ."

"They already have contacts, they are integrated with the world and lead a busy life - these characteristics should give players a sense of immediate and total immersion."

What’s more, the Rockstar executive also confirmed that the three main protagonists won't all be playable from the beginning of the game, as the experience will ease them into their lives separately.

"We want to give the player the opportunity to get to know the three characters individually, and explore the world as each of them, and it would not have been possible if all three had been available from the start."

Grand Theft Auto 5 is out on September 17 for the PS3 and Xbox 360.
