Sony and Rockstar have released two statements concerning the recent leak of several files from Grand Theft Auto 5, which occurred after the game became available for pre-load on the PlayStation 3 via the PlayStation Store.

GTA V is eagerly awaited by millions of gamers from around the world, as Rockstar Games will deliver a great open world experience with an impressive single-player campaign that features three protagonists, but also a great multiplayer mode in the form of Grand Theft Auto Online.

Sadly, while Rockstar went to great lenghts to keep things from leaking about GTA 5, quite a few major things have surfaced online after being pulled from the files of the game's PS3 edition.

Apparently, the files were obtained after Sony allowed PS3 users in Europe to pre-load GTA V via the PlayStation Store. The download wasn't encrypted, meaning console owners could access the files and view their contents.

Sony has issued a statement about the whole issue, apologizing to gamers and to Rockstar for the technical problem.

"Regrettably, some people who downloaded the digital pre-order of Grand Theft Auto V through the PlayStation Store in Europe were able to access certain GTA V assets. These assets were posted online. We have since removed the digital pre-order file from the PlayStation Store in Europe," the company said on the PS blog.

"We sincerely apologize to Rockstar and GTA fans across the world who were exposed to the spoiler content. GTA V is one of the most highly anticipated games of the year with a very passionate following, and we’re looking forward to a historic launch on September 17."

Rockstar Games also made a statement using its special Newswire, emphasizing the scope of the leak and warning fans to stay away from many websites that promise new details about GTA 5.

"As you can imagine, we are deeply disappointed by leaks and spoilers being spread in advance of the game's launch. GTAV represents years of hard work by many people across the world, and we all couldn't be more excited to finally share it with you properly this September 17."

Until September 17, GTA fans can expect to see a lot more leaks about the new game.
