The Gran Turismo series has been widely praised for the in-game physics engine, for the varied tracks and the great variety of cars available, over 700 in Gran Turismo 4. And after achieving gaming icon status the series is gaining more and more attention for its business model. After all, GT 5 Prologue went over the 1 million sales threshold without even being launched, which is a first for a PlayStation 3 game.

Instead of letting fans hang on and twiddle their thumbs anxiously while awaiting for the full Gran Turismo 5 game to launch, publisher Sony Computer Entertainment Europe and developer Polyphony Digital decided they should release a limited version of the game, called Prologue, first and then begin creating the content that the game should contain.

Prologue is slated for release on March 28 and already fans are saying that it should be the best game the franchise has seen yet.

But what about the proper Gran Turismo 5? While responding to comments on the official game blog, Chris Hinojosa-Miranda, Associate Producer at SCEA, let this information slip: Also, to further clarify, GT5 is still about a year away. You should just decide now to buy it, enjoy it, go online and race against anyone and everyone, rank number one worldwide, get the girl (or guy) and become the most popular kid in town. The end". In other words make sure you get Gran Turismo 5 Prologue as the wait for the proper game will not be an easy one without it.

In other news, GT 5 Prologue will get some exclusive music tracks, hand picked by the developers to represent the best that the "driving music" genre has to offer. The big names on the list are Thin Lizzy, The Mars Volta and Weezer. The tracks are North America exclusive as Japan and Europe are set to also receive region specific music.
