Country singer Hunter Hayes had plenty of reasons to be anxious about the 2014 Grammy Awards, and not just because he was nominated in the Best Country Solo Performance category, but also because he had planned a very special surprise for his fans.

Booked to perform during the awards gala, he chose to debut a new song on this special night for the music industry. It’s called “Invisible” and it’s what could be dubbed an anti-bullying song in message.

Hayes included in the performance pull quotes from big celebrities like Lady Gaga and Johnny Depp, on the topic of bullying and the measures needed to encourage victims of bullying to speak out and seek help.

Hayes didn’t win the Grammy because Darius Rucker beat him to the punch with “Wagon Wheel,” but he probably went home happy with himself for putting on an impressive performance. I mean, he literally sang his heart out, as you can see for yourself in the video below.

“I seriously cannot wait to introduce INVISIBLE on @TheGRAMMYs. So beyond excited,” Hunter tweeted before the gala. I’m sure his fans were happy with the surprise he had prepared for them.
