It's that time of the year again: the nominations for the Grammys 2012 have just been announced in a live ceremony. The prestigious awards show will air live on February 12, 2012 on CBS but, first, make sure you know who you're rooting for.

British singer Adele and Kanye West are clearly the favorites of the night, even though Adele is the one to have nabbed noms in the biggest categories.

Her album “21” is not only the best selling release of the year, but also a very strong contender for Album of the Year, a category in which she goes up against the Foo Fighters, Katy Perry and Rihanna.

“21” has also been nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album.

Adele is also in the running for Record of the Year, with the heartbreaking ballad “Rolling in the Deep.” Other contenders to the prize are Bruno Mars with “Grenade,” Katy Perry with “Firework” and Mumford & Sons with “The Cave.”

Kanye West, regardless of how controversial and, at times, universally hated he might be, is still the king when it comes to good rap, as his latest album, “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy,” has already attested.

It's in the running for Best Rap Album, neck and neck with Nicki Minaj's “Pink Friday,” Lupe Fiasco's “Lasers” and Lil Wayne's “Tha Carter IV.”

Another strong competitor for Kanye in the same category is Kanye himself: his album with Jay-Z, “Watch the Throne,” also scored a nod.

Taylor Swift landed a nomination in Best Country Album with “Speak Now,” going up against Jason Aldean (“My Kinda Party”), Lady Antebellum (“Own the Night”), Eric Church (“Chief”), Blake Shelton (“Red River Blue”) and George Strait (“Here for a Good Time”).

The complete list of nominations for the Grammy Awards 2012 is here. You can also check out the list below, and remember to check back on February 12 to see if your favorite took home the much coveted award.
