Professional Digital Imaging

Grafpup Linux is a desktop operating system which provides a complete and stable workflow for digital imaging professionals and graphic artists in a very compact package.

Grafpup Linux runs very well as a Live CD, but with persistent storage for your data, and a nice package management system to add on software. When running the Live CD, you can also install extra packages that will remain after reboot.

Of course, Grafpup Linux can also be installed quite easily onto a USB thumbdrive or your hard disk, and it will run equally well. Grafpup Linux is based on the structure of Puppy Linux, which is an amazing distribution created from scratch by Barry Kauler. The total size of the Grafpup Linux Live CD is right around 75MB, and the whole of the operating system loads into RAM for amazing performance.

Let's have a look at some of the applications included in Grafpup Linux:

GIMP-2.2.10 is the premier image editor for the Linux platform and a centerpiece of GNU software. ■ InkScape-0.43 is one of the best Vector drawing programs available for any platform. ■ Scribus-1.2.4 is a complete desktop publishing solution. ■ Cinepaint-0.20-1 is another image editor that complements Gimp nicely by including 16-bit support for high end digital photography and imaging. ■ Bluefish-1.04 is a powerful web development tool that can be used to quickly generate html, php, perl, and other codes. While it is not a wysiwyg editor, its features are more powerful than the ones of any other application. ■ Icewm-1.2.23 is a small and light window manager with all of the functionality you will most likely need. ■ Opera-8.5 is one of the best browsers in the world. It is a perfect blend of small size and functionality. Opera is also the default e-mail program in Grafpup with a slick e-mail client integrated right into the browser. ■ Gxine media player for movies and music; DVD playback works great out of the box in Grafpup. ■ Ted word processor is a small and light rich text word processor.

Grafpup Linux 1.0.4 pre1 has been released yesterday, and it comes in two editions - Standard and Deluxe. This is a preview release meant to showcase several new features that are being integrated into the 'official' 104 build. It has most of the functionalities you can expect in the finished product, but does lack a certain "amount of polish" right now. GIMP and Cinepaint have both been upgraded to the latest stable releases, while we've moved on up to Opera 9-beta for browsing.

Here are some screenshots we have made for Grafpup Linux 1.0.4 pre1 Deluxe:
