Yet another Linux beta distro has been released. The Grafpup 2.0 beta distribution aims to remaster Puppy Linux, much improved and bug-fixed than its previous releases. Among the bug-fixing, the Grafpup 2.0 beta distro also brings some new upgraded packages and much stability. For example, Opera browser was upgraded to the 9.20 version and so were the cdrtools, growisofs, FFMpeg, flac, xine-lib and gxine packages. The entire 2.6.20.2 kernel has been recompiled and some bugs with the hardware were also repaired.

The X configuration was pretty much altered, now being more stable and allowing you to run Xvesa without root privileges. Same goes for Xorg, that should function very well. With all these, there are still a lot of things to be improved regarding the X, such as a better support for the Wacom graphic tablets.

Among the applications which can be found in Grafpup we can count:

GIMP-2.2.11 ■ InkScape -0.43 Vector drawing program ■ Scribus-1.2.4.1 a complete desktop publishing solution ■ Cinepaint-0.21-1- that was here updated to the latest 0.22-0 release, more stable ■ Bluefish-1.05 ■ Icewm-1.2.26 window manager ■ Opera-9.20 ■ Ted word processor

Pupget, the package manager, has an impressive list of extra applications to extend Grafpup and there are a lot of utilities designed to better accomplish the user's need. For example, Grafpup has a utility for importing photos from a digital camera.

Grafpup runs well as a live CD too, but with persistent storage for your data and a serious package management system for addon software. Packages can also be installed when running the OS from the live CD and they are kept after rebooting. It can also be installed quite easily on a usb thumbdrive or a hard disk and it runs very well.
