Researchers from Cornell University used two 3D printers to do it

Lots of the world's scientific research is done by graduate and undergraduate students, and we definitely have proof to uphold that statement: a 3D printed speaker.

A team of graduate mechanical engineering students from Cornell University were able to use two customizable 3D printers to create a loudspeaker.

They were able to nearly seamlessly print the magnetic, conductive and plastic parts.

In the end, it only took sticking two pieces together for the speaker to be complete and operational.

The speaker was promptly used to play a sound clip from US president Barack Obama's recent State of the Union Speech, which mentions 3D printing. Check it out in the video above.

This won't really usher in the era of 3D printed electronics (3D printing doesn't have the precision needed for it yet, especially mass production), but it's a step in that direction.
