Gaming tablets are an alternative for mobile gamers

If you’re not a hardcore gamer who can only be satisfied with the latest generation of laptops bundling NVIDIA’s newest GPU architecture and you wouldn’t mind something more mobile, like a tablet, I have just the thing for you.

The Wikipad is a 7-inch Android tablet that can be neatly slid into a handgrip case complete with game controller buttons on either side.

Originally the tablet was supposed to sell for $499 / €358, but by-mid 2013, when the product actually launched on the market, it cost only $249 / €178. If that still seems like a lot of money, you shouldn’t worry. As of today, Wikipad’s price has dropped to an affordable $199 / €143.

That’s a nice price for a tablet, although I have to admit that, at this point, Wikipad’s insides seem to look a little bit outdated.

The slate has a 7-inch screen with a bland 1280 x 800 pixel resolution and draws life from a NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor combined with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. The default operating system is Android 4.2 and I don’t think Android 4.4 KitKat will be coming soon to this slate.

Basically, you can compare the Wikipad with the 2012 Google Nexus plus the physical game buttons. Moreover, Wikipad comes pre-installed with a bunch of apps and games, including Dead Trigger 2, Google Play Store and NVIDIA TegraZone. Starting today, you can pick one up from Amazon.
