Google will hold a press conference today, which has high chances of turning into the first occasion for the company to reveal its new mobile platform. Codenamed "Android", this should set the basis for the future handset unveiling that everybody expects from this company.

Google made no official statement on what people should expect from today's handset release. Still, with all the rumors going by on a future mobile phone release from this company, there are high chances that Google will actually make a first step towards this decision.

The "Android" software suite should contain a complete mobile phone software stack on a Linux-based OS platform. It's all based on rumors, but there is almost no chance of seeing actual handsets on display on this occasion, as all results regarding such important issues come in time.

There are high chances that Google will license the Android software under the Apache License, Version 2.0. Linux-based phone software for Google could come with LiMo's help, providing mobile phone software developers with a unified software foundation. This should also contribute to the overall expansion of Linux software, a solution convenient both for developers and mobile phone users.

Google will bring a breakthrough solution, according to Tim Hanlon, an executive vice president at Denuo, a consulting arm of advertising agency Publicis Groupe. It will be nothing like the approach of other carriers and will agree to separating mobile phone from service and also allow third party applications to be installed, much to the joy of those looking for a mobile solution different from that of Apple's.

Android is the name of the mobile-phone software company bought out by Google in 2005, run by an ex-Danger founder. It's never been revealed what the firm has worked on since the takeover.
