Rumors that Google could be working on a smartwatch have been going on for months, although the company has never taken the time to confirm the plans or even to discuss the possibility.

Now, CNET is reporting that over at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, news has transpired that a Google smartwatch will indeed happen and it will be built by LG, the same company that Google collaborates with for the Nexus smartphones.

The smartwatch will apparently be launched during the Google I/O conference scheduled for June this year, but there’s been no confirmation yet.

Most certainly, Google will be handling most of the process in its relationship with LG, as it happens with Nexus – dictating all the details, including design and software.

With this new addition, Google would be joining a growing market, with more and more offers. However, the issue with this particular type of products is that there are few buyers interested in making such a purchase.

A device perfectly integrated into the Google universe could end up attracting a lot more users.
