It's been a very long time in the making, but it seems that Google TV fans have only a short while longer to wait for the update that will, supposedly, greatly upgrade their devices and bring Google TV a lot closer to what it was supposed to be.

Google TV 2.0, as it is, rather informally, being called, is now expected to come in three to four weeks, as Google TV Director of Content Donagh O’Malle announced himself at a conference.

While he would not give an exact date, he said that the major update should be coming in that time frame, provided nothing unexpected happens.

A couple of weeks ago, Google also said that a big update is coming "within weeks" on its Google TV Twitter account.

It's not exactly an official announcement, but it's probably as good as it gets with Google, who doesn't make a habit of pre-announcing products or even product updates.

Google TV was unveiled to a lot of promise last year, but when it finally landed in people's living rooms, it disappointed.

On the one hand, the software itself, based on Android and Chrome, a rather Frankensteinian concoction, was rather buggy and felt unpolished and incomplete.

On the other, and perhaps much more importantly, Google TV suffered from a lack of content as many websites, belonging to cable TV networks, blocked the device from accessing content that was otherwise freely available online.

Google pinned its hopes on a big update, which would bring support for Google TV apps, in the Android Market, among other things, but it seems that the update got pushed back, as new features and ideas were planned for it.

But Google is finally ready to unveil Google TV 2.0, which is based on the tablet Android Honeycomb. It will support apps and is also expected to have a lot more content available.
