The Google Mobile Team has posted an update for owners of an iPhone, WinMo and SyncML phones, letting everyone know that a Google Sync Beta is now available to try out. Using the service, handset owners are promised a highly useful backup and sync solution for their contacts, calendar events and more.

“One of the hardest parts about switching phones is getting your address book and calendar to your new device,” says the Google mobile team. “We're making that process a little easier by releasing a beta version of Google Sync for the iPhone and Windows Mobile phones as well as a contacts-only version for phones that support SyncML.”

“The connection is always on so you don't have to manually sync your phone after Sync has been set up. This means that when your colleague changes the time of the TPS report cover sheets meeting, you'll know about it right away,” the team explains.

The team of engineers at Google also notes that Sync users will be able to make changes on just one of the devices they generally use in order to have their contacts and calendar synced across all of them. The two-way service also secures your files, as they are backed up to your Google account. Google Sync will allow for two-way contacts synchronization only for devices that support the open SyncML protocol, such as Apple's iPhone. BlackBerry users have their own version of Google Sync, according to the Google Mobile Team.

“Following the Google credo to launch early and iterate, we're introducing Sync in beta,” the post reads on. “We encourage you to visit our Help Center to review device specific instructions and known issues. Also, please keep in mind that Google Sync may remove all existing contacts and calendar events from your phone, so make sure to back up any important data before you set it up,” the team advises users.
