The biggest privacy fear about Google has just become a reality

Google Glass owners can now simply wink to take a picture, following the latest update rolled out by the Internet giant.

The feature is quite controversial and it’s certainly going to annoy a lot of people who already have privacy concerns regarding the device.

A while back, developers had already worked out an app for this, called Winky. Critics were quick to express their opinion about anyone having the ability to snap pictures in public without as much as a warning.

Despite the fact that even the U.S. Congress sent the company a letter addressing the way the device could be used, Google isn’t too concerned.

“We’re starting with pictures, but just think about what else is possible. Imagine a day where you’re riding in the back of a cab and you just wink at the meter to pay. You wink at a pair of shoes in a shop window and your size is shipped to your door. You wink at a cookbook recipe and the instructions appear right in front of you – hands-free, no mess, no fuss. Pretty cool, right?” the Glass team wrote.

In the same update, Glass also got a new Lock Screen feature that requires a specific set of taps and swipes to enable the device. Hangouts messages can now be sent to the gadget, while uploading a Glass-recorded video to YouTube has become even easier.

Google Play Music All Access subscribers are now able to pick between playlists they have stored and radio or try the shuffle feature to create a radio station based on previous listening history.

MyGlass for iOS also got an early release on Tuesday, although the app was pulled from the store. The company said that while the app was ready, the Glass update needed to be rolled out first for the app to work.

“We know we spilled the beans a bit too soon, but we’ll let you know when it’s available for download later this week,” the Glass team wrote.
