On Monday, Mountain View-based Internet giant Google has announced the availability of a new version of its Google Play Services to the owners of Android devices out there, namely build 4.2.

The company has also unveiled that the new release comes with the full version of Google Cast SDK, as well as with improved APIs.

“The latest release of Google Play services has begun rolling out to Android devices worldwide. It includes the full release of the Google Cast SDK, for developing and publishing Google Cast-ready apps,” Google announced in a new blog post.

“Once the rollout is complete, you'll be able to download the Google Play services SDK using the SDK Manager and get started with the new APIs.”

With the new Google Cast SDK, developers should find it easy to bring their content to the TV, all without building a new application. In fact, all they need to do is to incorporate the SDK into their existing mobile or web apps.

“You are in control of how and when you publish your Google Cast-ready app to users through the Google Cast developer console,” Google notes. Some more info on the matter can be found in the Ready to Cast post on the Google Developers Blog.

The new Google Play Services 4.2 also brings along the full version of the Google Drive API, available only as a developer preview in version 4.1 of the service.

As part of the new release, developers will be able to enjoy refinements to the API, complemented by a variety of improvements brought to performance and stability.

According to the company, some more info on the new Google Play services SDK and on how to get started with the new APIs will be provided in the not too distant future.

Those who would like to learn more on the Google Play Services and the APIs packed inside it should head over to the Google Services page on the Android Developers site.
