They offer info on actors playing in the movie, on soundtrack, and more

Yesterday, Google announced an update to the Google Play Movies application, so as to bring info cards to all countries where the service is available.

Previously, these cards were available only in the United States and the UK, but they can now be enjoyed in all countries where Play Movies has already landed, it seems.

For those out of the loop, we should note that these info cards were designed to provide users with various details on the movies they are watching, including the names of actors, soundtrack, and more.

Moreover, users will be provided with the possibility to add related movies to their Google Play wishlist, get the soundtrack, or search Google for more info on the video, all straight from the aforementioned info cards.

These cards will appear when the movie is paused, so as not to obstruct the viewing experience in any way. They are available on all devices running under Android 4.0 and above, though Google Play Movies is restricted to only 69 countries for the time being, as AndroidOS notes.

“Explore inside the movie with info cards to learn the real scoop about the actors, about other films they've starred in and even what song's playing in the background,” the company explains in a post on Google+.

“Then get right back to enjoying your movie. Now rolling out to all countries where Google Play Movies are available.”

For the time being, however, only a small set of movies and TV shows offer support for the aforementioned info cards, though more of them should do so sooner rather than later.

Users interested in learning which movies come with info cards should head over to the video’s detail page on Google Play, and click on Additional information.

Using these info cards is simple and pretty straightforward, as users will only need to pause the video they are watching in order to access info on actors, music, and the like.

“When watching select full-length movies and TV shows, touch your screen to pause playback and learn more about the actors visible on-screen. When a video with info cards is paused, identified actors will have a circle around their faces,” Google explains.

“To identify songs being played in a movie or TV show, touch your screen to pause playback while the song is being played. If the song is identified, cards will show the song’s title, artist, along with where you can download the song, album, or soundtrack on Google Play.”

Users interested in learning more on the new feature in Google Play Movies should head over to the official store for that.
