This is definitely the best time of the year to be generous and worry about the fate of misfortunate people. Google is fully aware of this, since it announced its eagerness to offer some substantial grants to boost education, favor larger access to technology and help abolish modern slavery.

The company is willing to provide more than pocket change to back this noble cause. Apparently, Google will donate £7.5m ($11.5m/€8.84m) in grants, a significant amount meant to put an end to modern slavery. This is the most appropriate way to give back, according to enterprise officials.

Even nowadays, modern slavery is considered an influent industry bringing millions of dollars in profit every year.

Moreover, human rights groups reveal this phenomenon has made 27 million victims so far. Therefore, many lives are at stake so Google's project is welcomed as an effective response to this issue.

It plans to offer financial support to organizations currently tackling this problem. In India, International Justice Mission (IJM) will work in partnership with The BBC World Service Trust, Action Aid and Aide et Action and governments to reduce the increased number of modern slavery cases.

Google's funding will support several actions, like tracking documenting abuse, freeing the victims and offering them access to appropriate therapy and job training.

Nevertheless, an amount of money would go to Slavery Footprint and Polaris Project, non-profit organizations that contribute to tracking and solving cases of modern slavery, while also raising the American citizens’ level of awareness regarding the seriousness of this issue.

Moreover, Google wants to financially support 16 educational programs. All in all, the main goal is to improve the lives and learning methods for more than 3 million students.

In addition, just in time for Christmas, the company unveiled it would offer funds to educate 10,000 girls in developing countries. Since young women play an important role in poor nations, this charitable gesture would not only help them, it would also contribute a great deal to the wellbeing of entire families and communities.

Consequently, its considerable financial support is going to help “expand the horizons of underprivileged youngsters.”
