Google prepares a special London even that is meant to introduce the new Maps for Mobile service, a product that allows handheld owners to view satellite maps. The official English solution was released a long time ago and was made compatible with numerous brands and handheld devices, but the regional version for British users will be introduced today. According to Inside Google, UK Maps for Mobile will be available only as a Java program so only a certain segment of mobile phones owners will be able to use the product.

"Google Maps for Mobile has been released for British users, announced at a London press briefing today. Englanders get local business searches, driving directions, tube/train station locations, and satellite imagery, all with a relatively good interface designed for the mobile screen and controls. It appears that they've released only the Java application (although that is not exactly clear), which means it runs on all Java-capable phones," Inside Google reported today.

As you can see in the clip posted below, the mobile service is quite attractive and easy to use because all you need to do is type the weblink, choose your location and start enjoying the maps.

These days, the Mountain View company made a lot of improvements for its Google Earth and Google Maps, aiming to make them even more powerful than before. As I said today, the search giant quietly released a new version of Google Earth, the 4.1 beta version adding interoperability with Google Maps, the web-based edition of the downloadable application. Google Maps was also recently improved with several locations, allowing users to admire some new high-resolution pictures with streets and cities from all around the world.
