Mountain View-based Internet giant Google has released a new flavor of its Google Maps application for handsets running under Google's Android operating system, namely version 5.3.1, which brings forth a series of fixes and enhancements, it seems. The release notes for the new flavor of the mobile applications shows that it was meant to “fix the Manage My Places and auto-check-ins issues.”

The new release comes as a result of user feedback, it seems, and has been already made available for download via the Android Market.

The new version of Google Maps is listed in the application store as a 5.9Mb download, which means that it might have been released to replace the previously available version of the mobile software.

Users will find the new Google Maps for Android 5.3.1 available for download via the Android Market here.

While there, they might also spot the fact that the application has just managed to top the 50 million downloads mark.

Apparently, Google Maps is the very first software in the storefront to reach this milestone, which demonstrates the impressive popularity it has among end users.

Google Maps is one of the nicest applications available for Android-based mobile phones, and the fact that Google is continuously updating it with new features and enhancements is something that users seem to appreciate as well.

Some of the main features of the application would include Navigation (Free, voice-guided GPS navigation system), Places (Find, rate, and get recommendations for places), or Latitude (See friends on the map and check in at places).

A few months ago, Google has added 3D maps into the mix, along with vector graphics and other features that were meant to increase the speed of the application.

The Google Maps mobile application is available for download for all mobile devices that run under Google's Android 1.6 platform or higher.
