Today, Mountain View-based Internet giant Google made available for download a new flavor of their Google Maps for Android application, namely version 5.4.0, which brings forth some appealing new features. This is only a minor update for the mobile application for Android-based devices it seems, but it was already made available for download, and those interested in benefiting from its features can no head to the Android Market to give it a try.

Apparently, the release notes for the mobile application include:

View your Google Maps searches in Google Web History for your account. See additional business details for each search result on the map Report “destination not here” in Navigation (Beta)

Being able to view Google Maps searches from the Google Web History of your account would certainly prove a helpful feature, especially when trying to remember a specific place.

The other two new features are also very welcomed, especially since the last one would most probably result in updated Maps.

As stated above, the new software is not a ground-breaking one. It weighs in at around 6MB, and can be downloaded from the Android Market here.

As one can imagine, all of the features that Google Maps already included are present on handsets following the update to the new release: Navigation (beta): Free, voice-guided GPS navigation system Places: Find, rate, and get recommendations for places Latitude: See friends on the map and check in at places

Provided that there are some of you who are not familiar with what Google Maps for Android is all about, they can have a look at the video embedded below to learn additional details.

Google Maps is available for all handsets powered by the Android 1.6 or newer mobile operating system, but certain features, such as Navigation, are available only for Android 2.x versions of the OS.
