Google Maps is surely one of the most known map solutions in the entire world, allowing you to view maps and other imagery from all around the world captured directly from the satellites. Although the company also owns a downloadable map solution, Google Earth, the search giant is improving Maps periodically because it is more accessible than the desktop application. Google Maps can be used directly from the official page of the product and for free, without any Google account or password.

It's obvious the services are very popular because users and companies are continuously trying to collaborate with Google to make them even more powerful. As you know, the search giant added Google SketchUp interoperability so all the users that are looking to include their buildings, streets or cities in the products can create 3D models using this innovative tool. Some time ago, multiple online publications announced that terrorists are using the two products developed by Google to organize attacks against UK troops located in Basra. At that time, the search giant replaced certain images with older ones captured before the departure of the army in the area.

Recently, the company announced that Maps Australia was available as a stand alone service, Google planning to capture detailed photos with the territory on the Australian Day January 26. Because the company made their plans public, people from Sydney designed huge banners to be photographed and included in Google's service. Although they were all there, the company didn't show up after their authorization for flying at a low altitude was denied.

Today, an interesting post on the official Google blog announces that Google Maps Australia is now available. Although it was released some time ago, its employees are now sustaining the product is finally released so, I guess it is just an update of the product.

"Many Australians have used our maps and satellite images, so today we're especially excited to launch Google Maps Australia. We've expanded service to include Australian business listings, driving directions, and support for Google Mobile Maps in Australia.

The next time you're looking for an address, tiger meat pie in Sydney, cafes in Melbourne, or how to get to the beach, Google Maps can help you find the answer. If you're at your computer, go to Maps Australia and start searching -- you can type addresses or business searches like [cricket near melbourne] all into the same search box. If you want to access Google Maps on your mobile device, go to Mobile Maps from your Java- enabled phone or Palm device to get started," the blog post sustained.
