Going through the stages will earn you points with Google

Google is trying to make life easier for anyone who wants to use its products, so it has started to implement tutorials everywhere. While Gmail already had its very own list of directions with illustrations, the company has taken things a step further.

Now, all new Gmail users have a setup widget that basically takes users through all the necessary steps to create their accounts.

The first one, of course, is actually creating an account, followed by learning how to use Gmail. This involves four separate steps that will teach you how to organize the inbox, find messages, star emails, send photos, set up automatic replies, and even how to use keyboard shortcuts on Gmail and what they can be useful for.

Once this is done, you can just add a checkmark in the circle, or, if you already know how to do all this, just go ahead and skip actually going through the tutorial.

Then, you can get Gmail for mobile by typing your phone number, scanning a QR code, or visiting a certain page on the mobile device. Of course, if you have an Android phone, it is quite likely to already have the Gmail app installed.

The next step is choosing a theme. Clicking on the link there will take you directly to the Settings area where you can take your pick out of a few available options.

Then, users are urged to import contacts and emails to make for an easier transition to the new webmail. This can be done by providing an email account, complete with the password to verify that it is, indeed, your account and not someone else’s.

The last step to take you to an account 100 percent complete is changing your profile image. Clicking on this particular link will bring up an interface where you can select a photo from the computer by browsing for the file. Alternatively, you can always drag and drop it to the screen.

Once all this is done, Google will congratulate you for getting the most out of Gmail and will award you a medal of sorts.

“Gmail now has a setup gadget to help people new to Gmail get started. This gadget helps people set up their Gmail account with actions like adding a profile picture and creating an email signature, and teaches them to use features like undo send and creating an auto-responder. The setup gadget is hidden once the person completes all actions, dismisses the gadget or after two weeks. It can be relaunched from Settings,” Google says about the changes.
