AppleTV was recently released by the parent company Apple and was meant to represent the easiest alternative to play digital content on your TV. However, numerous AppleTV owners tried to customize their own device and enhance its functionality to implement new features. For example, some users tried to analyze the AppleTV's operating system and customize its settings. Today, the guys from AwkwardTV implemented a YouTube plugin that allows the device to play the clips from the online video sharing service straight on your TV. According to MacNN, the plugin enables users to view some videos from YouTube through a simple menu entitled "A Series Of Tubes".

"The new unofficial plugin for Apple TV called "A Series of Tubes" brings YouTube video content to internet media hub, expanding its current functions beyond the Apple's limited QuickTime trailer previews and iTunes' top 10 lists. The plugin delivers a number of playlists, including spotlighted YouTube videos along with most commented and most-viewed content (week/month) from the popular video-sharing site. Settings also enable users to cache video content for optimal playback," MacNN said.

At this time, the plugin is not available for download, but as you can see in the clip posted below the article, AwkwardTV really managed to implement it into AppleTV.

In the recent period, YouTube was quite a popular solution as the search giant promoted it periodically. A few days ago, Google debuted a new contest on YouTube, encouraging users to upload their homemade content. In the past, the online video sharing service was entirely based on the clips posted by its users, the most evident proof being revealed after the Viacom case. As you might know, the owner of MTV and Comedy Central demanded YouTube to remove no more than 100.000 clips from the page, accusing the company for copyright infringement. Just after the removal was started, YouTube sustained that its traffic was boosted by the user generated clips.
