The current Nexus 7 model hasn’t been out long, but even so rumors about Google’s next-gen device are already starting to pop up.

For instance, there’s a shadow of mystery around which company is going to produce the 2014 model. Rumor has it that Google has some other pretenders for the job apart from Asus. We’re talking about HTC and LG.

A recent report via the Korean site Emsodm claims that the search giant is in the process of deciding which partner will be taking on the Nexus 7 endeavor. We’ll probably know the final outcome in December.

It appears HTC is more than willing to take on the job. The company has experience in the field, as it was responsible for the Nexus One. On top of that, HTC has been a long time presence in the slate market. But when asked about the rumors, HTC declined to comment on the speculation.

LG is also a possible candidate. The Korean giant produced the Nexus 4 and it is believed the same will happen with the Nexus 5.

Nevertheless, it’s still too early to tell. Google usually keeps its products around for a year, before applying a makeover to it. The current Nexus 7 model barely has 6 months.
