The future of television as we know it has been forever altered by the introduction of Google TV, the involvement of the search engine giant dominating the Internet into the field of TV coming as somewhat of a surprise for certain people, but as a natural evolution for others, given the deeper and deeper level of integration between the two media that's manifested itself over the past couple of years. And it seems that Google's quite convinced that its future and the future of advertising are directly related to this Internet – television integration, the company reasserting its commitment to IPTV and its Google TV offering during the Web 2.0 Summit, in San Francisco. So, as TechCrunch reports, Google Global Sales Operations and Business Development, Nikesh Arora, made an extremely interesting statement on that occasion, saying that just about everyone will adopt IPTVs over the next couple of years, these devices becoming dominant in the next 5 to 8 years time-frame (which sort of makes sense, given the current rate of adoption of the latest display technologies). As you can imagine, Google's extremely interested in seeing IPTVs being adopted on a much wider range, simply because such a complex solution will work wonders for its advertising business, helping them deliver more ads, better suited to the users' respective profiles. Also, Google's exec revealed the fact that Google TV will bring about the rebirth of display advertising, which has sort of gone under the radar over the past couple of years, simply due to the company's own push towards search advertising. The bottom line here is that Google sees a great potential in this field, with billions and billions of dollars to be made, because otherwise, we're pretty sure that its level of involvement and investments in this field would be significantly lower.
