Yesterday, Google has announced the launch of a new service that is said to increase the traffic level of any website using it. It appears that site owners will have the most advantages, as they will be able to provide their visitors with social features, even if the site isn't part of a social network. According to the press release, a preview of Google Friend Connect has been displayed at Campfire One at the Googleplex.

With Google Friend Connect, webmasters can add "a snippet of code" that will endow their sites with social features. They will be able to choose from a number of built-in functionalities like user registration, invitations, members' gallery, message posting, and reviews, which will ultimately make their site grow in terms of traffic. In doing so, site owners will enable their visitors to socially interact, even if the specific site isn't anything like MySpace, Facebook or orkut.

The new service will allow site visitors to interact with friends from other social websites available. Users who want a glimpse of what this new service can provide should tune to the personal website of musician Ingrid Michaelson. The artist has recently added a feature from iLike using Google Friend Connect and, by doing so, has made her webpage capable of running iLike OpenSocial application. While listening to the artist's music, users can comment alongside their friends without ever leaving the website.

Overall, the newly Google Friend Connect offers a number of important features to web owners, which will most probably see their website traffic increase. Google Friend Connect will also be responsible for the visitors' increased level of engagement.

The press release has also informed website owners and developers who are interested in learning more about Google Friend Connect, OpenSocial, that a two-way developer gathering will be held between 28 and 29 of May.
