Even more news in Google Earth

Following the recent integration of the New York Times layer into Google Earth, an addition which allows users to read news straight from the mapping application, the Mountain View-based company has made another move to bring even more news to Google Earth fans: a brand new layer providing content powered by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, also known as ABC. The new layer, codenamed ABC Earth, provides almost the same functionality as the New York Times update, being focused on video, images and stories developed by ABC.

According to the official website of ABC Earth, "content includes National News, 50 Years of National and International News stories, Foreign Correspondent and Local Radio." Moreover, "content has been chosen because of reference to a specific country or location as well as being associated with a particular event."

Obviously, this layer can be implemented in most of Google Earth's flavors, but Mac users may encounter some difficulties when trying to install it. "Currently there is a known bug within some of the video content, which is stopping it being played on a Mac, we hope to resolve this bug soon," the developers explained. Users are asked to update their Mac OS X to the latest release in order to be sure that the newly released layer runs without any glitch. "If you have the latest Mac operating system you should be able to download and view all content from the ABC layer," they advise in a notification published on the official website.

As usual, you can download the latest version of Google Earth straight from our website, using this link for the Windows version, this one for the Linux release and this link for the Mac OS X flavor.
