A year ago, the northeastern part of the US was under siege by Hurricane Sandy. And even if quite some time has passed since then, people living in affected areas are still struggling to go back to normal and find their balance.

Google hopes to give a helping hand in that respect. The search giant has announced it will be donating 17,000 Nexus 7 tablets to the New York State Community Action Association. From there the slates will be sent on libraries, senior centers, business and community centers across the affected area.

Google’s donation is worth over $2.7 / €1.97 million. The slates will be used for job training purposes and to combat senior isolation by helping them get in touch with loved ones.

Google’s actions are laudable, but there’s a little twist to the story. Google’s Nexus 10 tablet was directly affected by Hurricane Sandy. Back in October 2012, the tech giant had to postpone the entire launch event due to the extreme weather conditions.
