While generalized access to Google's email services world wide is limited, signups being permitted on an invitation only basis or through mobile phone services, the Japanese Google, tapping the third largest Internet consumer market globally, will be opened to users without restrictions. The Mountain View company has announced that the Japanese version of GMail will add to its already impressive portfolio of over 40 languages.

"We want as many people to have access to our service," Angela Lee, Tokyo-based product manager at Google, said to the press. "The change has had quite a significant impact in Australia and New Zealand."

While the service presently delivers a volume of 2.7 gigabytes of data space for every free account, representatives from the Mountain View Company stated that this is a variable that continues to grow, and that GMail will continually increase its storage capabilities. Earlier this year Google has inked an agreement with KDDI Corp., the second largest Japanese wireless operator that will result in its search engine integration with mobile phones.

"We're trying to offer GMail for mobile phone users as soon as possible," said Hiroto Tokusei, another Google product manager. He said no specific plans have been decided yet.
