The company was overwhelmed by the popular response

Google’s Pac-Man celebrations turned out to be a great success. In many ways, it was a first for Google and there were definitely some risks involved, after all the Google homepage is one of the most trafficked web pages in the world, but it paid off big time. People really enjoyed playing Pac-Man inside the Google logo and the response has been overwhelming, even for Google. So much so that it has created a permanent home for the game so people can enjoy playing it even now after it has been taken down from the main homepage.

“We've been overwhelmed — but not surprised :) — by the success of our 30th anniversary PAC-MAN doodle. Due to popular demand, we’re making the game permanently available at www.google.com/pacman. Thanks to NAMCO for helping to make this wonderful collaboration happen. Enjoy!,” Marissa Mayer, VP Search Products and User Experience at Google, announced.

If you visit the www.google.com/pacman page, you’ll see the familiar, by now, redesigned Google homepage with the Pac-Man-game logo. The search page works as you’d expect, you have links to all major Google properties, the search box and everything else you expect. Of course, it also has the quirky Insert coin button replacing the well-known I’m feeling lucky button, which has been around for as long as the search engine has.

The game itself plays just like the Pac-Man of yore and just like the version Google ran over the weekend on its homepage. You can read the original post to find out more details about the game itself and how special the Pac-Man doodle is. No doubt, millions of people indulged themselves over the couple of days the game was featured on the homepage and many were maybe a little disappointed to see it go. No need to worry anymore, Google Pac-Man will be available for a long time now at its new home.
