For Google Reader

Back in 2005, when the Mountain View company released Google Reader, the web-based feed reader came with a simple interface that remained active until now. However, things are going to change soon, as the search giant is now informing the users that the original interface of Google Reader will be soon retired and you'll have to update to the new appearance in order to be able to use the product. According to Google blogger Ionut Alex Chitu, every time a user with the original Google Reader interface logs into his account, the service displays a notification message about the retirement of this old appearance.

"Hi there, we'd like to let you know that very soon we will be retiring our old Google Reader interface. Although we're sad to see it go, we're happy to report that we've been working hard on making the new interface as slick as possible based on feedback from users like you. If there are any specific reasons you prefer the old interface, we'd like to hear about them in our discussion group. We'll make sure to keep your feedback in mind as we work on improving Google Reader in the future," the message reads according to the same source.

Then, the user has two options: "Yes, I'm ready to switch to the new interface" or "No, I'd like to keep the old interface for the time being."

What's really interesting about this Google initiative is that most of the users disagree with it so the search giant might be forced to maintain the old interface available for interested consumers. According to Ionut Alex Chitu, one of the users who posted a message on the Google Groups discussion forum said that "for someone wanting to be able to quickly skim through all of their news feeds (like me) the old interface is simple and elegant without the unnecessary clutter that the new interface has."
