Google Chrome has reached a Stable version 8.0.552.215 on Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux with over 800 bug fixes and stability improvements, according to Jason Kersey, of the Chrome development team.

[admark=1]As usual, Kersey uses the blog for Google Chrome Releases to inform fans that their favorite web browser has been promoted to a new stable form, stating, “The Chrome team is happy to announce our latest Stable release, 8.0.552.215.”

The Google staffer reveals that Chrome 8 now contains a built-in PDF viewer that is secured in Chrome’s sandbox, in addition to over 800 bug fixes and stability improvements.

Security-wise, the browser has seen a bunch of tweaks and improvements as well, with the official list of fixes posted right here. According to Google, this release will also be posted to the Beta Channel.

Of particular interest to our Mac users, a security bug affecting both users of Mac OS X and Linux has been addressed in this new stable release of Chrome. Google lists the bug fix as follows:

As usual, those looking to learn more about the changes implemented in Chrome 8 for Mac can visit the SVN revision log. Those who find new issues with the browser are encouraged to file a bug.

A note about Google Chrome release channels and updates

Chrome boasts a release system with three distinct channels: Stable, Beta, and Developer preview, called the "Dev" channel.

The Stable channel is updated with features and fixes only after they are thoroughly tested in the Beta channel, while the Beta channel is to be updated with stable and complete features from the Dev channel, where ideas get tested.
