A new version of Google’s popular, open source web browser has been released through the Dev channel for all supported platforms, including Mac OS X, with specific fixes targeting those testing the browser on Apple’s Lion operating system.

Google engineers are shy to roll out a Chrome v. 15 build almost a full week into the release of Chrome 13 Stable, a move that should have also promoted the Beta channel to version 14.

And while the reasons for this slow-pace development remain shrouded in mystery, we’re still obliged to keep an eye out on the search giant for any significant updates they may roll out.

This time around, a new Chrome 14 Dev build has been let loose with a few enhancements for those testing the browser under Mac OS X 10.7, also known as Lion.

“The Dev channel has been updated to 14.0.835.29 for Windows, Mac, Linux, and Chrome Frame. This release contains fixes for a number of issues, along with increased stability on Mac OS X Lion,” reads the official announcement from Dharani Govindan, of the Google Chrome development team.

As it is customary, testers are encouraged to visit the SVN revision log for the full details about what changes are in this new build, as well as use the bug reporter for whatever issues may arise during their testing sessions.

Chrome 14 Dev is alpha-grade software and should be treated accordingly, meaning non-savvy users should not rely on this version of the web browser until it is declared Stable, or at least promoted to the Beta channel.

A Stable version of Chrome is always immediately available from our downloads zone (link below).

Chrome calls for an Intel-based Mac, 128MB of RAM and about 100MB of free disk space.
