Google Calendar, one of the most used event organizers and calendar systems out there, has added some cool new features to its impressive list. From now on, users will be able to add their favorite team's game schedule with just a few clicks inside their own calendar. Alongside the sport calendar, the company’s engineers have introduced a feature called “Contact's Birthday and Events” that will add all of the contact's birthday inside the Google Calendar.

As portrayed in the pictures below, the new sports event planner comes complete with a bunch of sport categories and leagues. Currently supporting six sports with the likes of Football, Soccer, Baseball, Basketball, Rugby and Hockey, we doubt that other new sports won't be added in the near future.

As it has already shown us with Google Translate, the Internet giant doesn't simply like to launch services and leave them in the dust, but actually continues to develop them, making them even better as time goes on. So, it is safe to say that leagues and sports will be added in the months to come.

The idea of the sports calendar came from Ian Whitfield, a Software Engineering Intern at Google, who wanted to keep track of his favorite team through his Google Calendar, without having to add all the team's games by hand through the user interface. And quite a good idea he had, currently the calendar supporting great and renowned leagues ranging from the NBA, NFL to UEFA Champion's League, and more obscure competitions like Magners Rugby League or the Singapore Soccer League.

From now on, calendar users can also import all their contacts’ birthday dates by just clicking “Add” -> “Browse Interesting Calendars” -> “More” -> “Contacts' Birthday and Events.” All contact information will then automatically be pulled from the user's address book and the contact's profile.

New features have also been added to the Calendar Labs, “Dim future repeating events” (repeating tasks will become more transparent to highlight more important events) and “Add any gadget by URL” that will provide users a way to add extra plug-ins to their Google Calendar.
