On Saturday, September 16, The Verge readers were met with a message which warned them that the website might be infected with malware. The site’s representatives quickly jumped to highlight that it was a fluke.

“www.theverge.com contains content from cdn0.sbnation.com, a site known to distribute malware. Your compute might catch a virus if you visit the site,” read the alert.

“Google has found malicious software may be installed onto your computer if you proceed. If you’ve visited the site in the past or you trust this site, it’s possible that it has just recently been compromised by a hacker. You should not proceed, and perhaps try again tomorrow or go somewhere else,” users were warned.

The Verge’s Joshua Topolsky reassured users that there was nothing wrong with the website.

“Hey guys we're aware of the malware warning (which is completely incorrect). Site is safe and we're working with Google to fix issue,” he wrote.

Currently, the search engine giant seems to have addressed the issue and the site is working properly.
