Google licensed a new technology that might be able to detect phishing websites and alert the users even before they visit them. Entitled "Browser system and method for warning users of potentially fraudulent websites" the patent was filed on December 5, 2005 and published on June 7, 2007 and according to SEO by the Sea, it belongs to the Mountain View company. The patent refers to a technology that might be implemented in the search engine and alert the users when it discovers phishing websites.

Probably, the new solution would work just like the malware notifications currently available on the Google search engine that informs users about the presence of this kind of threats on the pages that can be visited. The company didn't make any official statement but it is an obvious sign that Google wants to improve the security of its technologies, joining the already formed alliance of malware notifications and analyses made by the Google team.

"A user is warned of a potentially fraudulent document, such as a webpage, by a warning message that is overlaid on top of the document and of the browser chrome. The warning message is associated with a warning icon displayed in the browser chrome. The potentially fraudulent document is rendered in the browser such that the links within are not accessible to the user. The rendering may include superimposing an image over the document or rendering a snapshot of the document instead of the document itself," it is mentioned in the Abstract description of the patent.

Google is powerful enough to create an efficient security system and this is urgently needed as the Internet threats are growing more and more. The phishing websites are often trying to affect banks and other financial organizations in malicious actions to steal private information that could make them earn money with ease.
